DEEP CLEANING

 

In the hotel business, there is no such thing as spring cleaning. The hotel is supposed to be deeply cleaned at all times. Remember, the guest inspects the hotel every day and if the guest is only there for one day, the fact that the bathrooms are going to be “deep cleaned” the next day isn’t a “positive”, it is a negative. Every area of the hotel should always be ready for full inspection by your guests EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY.

To make sure this happens, you need a plan. Projects such as flipping mattresses, moving credenzas to vacuum behind, dusting floor moldings, etc should be assigned every day and every week to various Room Attendants or Housepersons. If you spread the tasks out on a daily and weekly basis with a schedule appropriate to the item and stick to it, the hotel will always be thoroughly cleaned. And don’t ever try to justify extra housekeeping time by the fact that your franchisor is coming for an inspection, or worse, that someone from the Support Office is coming. The most important people, guests, inspect you every day, so you are expected to be ready for an inspection every day.
